Largest Federal Health Care Provider Selects NSSPlus to Assist in Securing Patient Data, Information Systems
Falls Church, VA - Fall, 2005 - The
U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) Military Health
System has once again selected Network Security
Systems Plus (NSSPlus), LLC, to provide security
management, technical support, and certification
and accreditation services for its TRICARE contractor
health information systems, located at more than
200 sites across the U.S.
Covering TRICARE's North and South regions, the
new contract consists of one base year and four
one-year options, exercisable at the discretion
of the government. The base year has an estimated
value of nearly $7 million. If the government
exercises all of the option years, the estimated
value of the contract is approximately $35 million.
NSSPlus, in partnership with Unisys Corporation
and other companies, helps MHS/TRICARE comply
with the rigorous Department of Defense Information
Technology Security Certification and Accreditation
Process (DITSCAP). DITSCAP specifies how government
agencies must secure their information and systems,
including contractor systems processing or storing
DoD data, and protect the privacy of individuals.
The Military Health System (MHS)/TRICARE is the
largest provider of health care services to federal
government employees, serving 9.2 million active
duty and retired uniformed services members and
their families.
"NSSPlus is honored to be the Military Health
System's trusted partner in protecting the personal
and health information of our military people
and their families," said Felix A. Thomas, president
and chief executive officer, NSSPlus. "In an environment
of ever-evolving and new security threats, we
must remain constantly vigilant and innovative
- we have to stay ahead of the game. To keep the
MHS' information security program strong and help
maintain its position as an industry leader, we
will continue to develop and implement powerful
new security tools."
Among NSSPlus' innovations, a team of its engineers
developed an automated process for conducting
security risk assessments of software applications
residing on MHS networks. The process has been
modified and adapted for NSSPlus' corporate/commercial
customers.
